7 Weird “Lies” That Your Food Keeps Telling You

We all know that there’s some weird stuff in our food, but some things that appear on everyday packaging, wrappers, and containers are just plain weird, and even worse many of them are half-truths, or outright lies…

Here are 7 things to watch out for and keep yourself safe from next time you’re at your local supermarket…

1.    Gluten Free

There’s plenty of people who are going gluten free today, whether because of an allergy, or for some other reason…

Of course, many gluten free alternatives to foods that are normally glutinous are being made…

Unfortunately the amount of highly refined starches in them is ridiculously big… Not only that but they’re filled with tons of refined sugar also…

2.    Whole Grains

We’ve all been told that they’re good for us… Many products on the market claim that they include, or are made completely out of whole grains.

These whole grains have been beaten right down into a fine powder though, which can cause them to spike your blood sugar just as much as normal refined grains.

And on top of that they have been known to sometimes contain extra sugar…

3.   Wood… Is in your food…

This may surprise you but some foods, especially pre-shredded cheese, contain something called cellulose, which is, in the most basic sense, wood pulp…

4.    All Natural

Most people believe foods labeled ‘all natural’ or ‘natural ingredients’ are healthy. But honestlt the FDA doesn’t seem to have much of a definition for natural, even if they do, it’s probably not the same as yours…

As long as companies don’t add added colors, artificial flavors or synthetic substances they can use this term.

Anyone looking at the ingredients can see that their are some less than natural things often in these products…

5.    Trans Fats

On many processed foods we see the label trans-fat free, but did you know that as long as a product contains less than 0.5 gram per serving, food companies are still allowed to put trans-fat free on the label? And another thing many companies have renamed trans-fat to the word ‘hydrogenated’. Another clever disguise. So avoid foods that contain the word hydrogenated, omega-6, or vegetable oils like corn or soybean oil.

6.    Low Sugar

The food industry has a disgusting way to hide the true ingredients of their food. Although the package may state low in sugar, high fructose corn syrup or evaporated cane juice are only a few other example of names that are exactly the same thing.

7.    Low Fat

We have been told for years that fat is the main culprit of heart diseases and overweight, so the food industry came up with the fat-free or low-fat products to make us believe we are eating healthier foods. Fat is what makes your food taste great, so to compensate the flavor loss they put in sugar, artificial sweeteners, MSG, and many other chemicals to enhance their taste.
