Keytruda, a cancer Immunotherapy drug, AKA Pembrolizumab was shown in a recent study to have more prolonged cancer-fighting effects than some more standard cancer treatments and have less side effects for patients with advanced melanoma cancer. After a follow-up study to the trial that led to it’s FDA approval in 2014 for treating advanced melanoma… Immunotherapy’s most popular success was probably with the treatment of Former President Jimmy Carter who was successfully treated with Keytruda in 2015 and was recently declared cancer-free… He also reported that their were much less severe side effects then other treatments. A recent article published in Journal of the American Medical Association showed an analysis of 655 people treated with one of three similar schedules of Keytruda treatments, average tumor regression was 33%… An outstanding number, with only 4 out of the 655 having to stop taking the drug… overall, 74 percent of the treated patients had a positive response over the course of a year. “The early data from this research showed the unprecedented activity of pembrolizumab in people with advanced melanoma, and we can now report the full results of the study,” Dr. Antoni Ribas, UCLA professor of hematology and oncology said in a recent press release.
